If you're struggling during combat, keep an eye on your stamina gauge. Ku is wide open to attack when stamina has depleted, meaning it's often best to retreat and recharge before getting stuck in again.
Areas may seem barren at first, but it pays to explore a little before moving onward. You'll frequently find tantalising log entries, filling in the game's backstory, and helpful upgrades that should make your travels easier.
