Ribbons in Pokemon Sword and Shield are bonus items that you can unlock and equip to your Pokemon. Unlike regular items, however, held Ribbons won’t alter your Pokemon’s stats or anything like that. Ribbons give your Pokemon titles when they are thrown into battle. By giving the Galar Champion Ribbon to one of your Pokemon, for example, you will receive a message like “Go on, Rillaboom the Galar Champion!” when you throw that Rillaboom into battle.

To give a Pokemon a title, you, of course, will need a Ribbon. Defeating the Champion Cup to become Galar Champion should give all Pokemon in your party at the time the Galar Champion Ribbon. After you have done this, do the following to equip a title to your Pokemon:

  • Press pause
  • Head into the Pokemon menu
  • Press ‘A’ on the Pokemon of your choice and select ‘Check Summary’
  • Head to the far-right option on the screen (the ribbon icon)
  • Choose to Check Ribbons by pressing ‘A’
  • Press ‘A’ to give whatever Ribbon you’d like to that Pokemon

Once you have given a Ribbon to a Pokemon, they will be sent into battle with a unique title. Time to show off how good you are at the game with Ribbons.
