Will Call of Duty ever get a Switch release date

Call of Duty on Switch: Will Warzone or Vanguard ever get a Switch release date?

Call of Duty releases every year on every current platform beside the Nintendo Switch. It’s understandable why Nintendo fans would feel snubbed, but some are holding out hope that Warzone or Vanguard might get a Switch release date this year. After all, it’d be awesome to take that high-speed FPS action on the go. Here’s what we think about the odds of Call of Duty ever coming to the Switch.

Will Call of Duty ever get a Switch release date?

Call of Duty Nintendo Switch

Currently, there aren’t any plans to bring any Call of Duty games to the Nintendo Switch. Neither Vanguard nor Warzone has a release date for the console, and it’s unlikely they ever will.

A Call of Duty game hasn’t been released on a Nintendo console since Call of Duty: Ghosts came out on the Wii U in 2013. As a result, the series’ fanbase gravitates around Sony and Microsoft’s consoles and PC. There’s no real reason to put time into developing a Switch version when the community isn’t there.

The biggest obstacle to a Call of Duty game on Switch right now is the console itself. The Switch lacks the power to run current Call of Duty games. Furthermore, the massive amount of storage these titles take up would make downloading them untenable for many Switch owners.

The Switch’s online capabilities are also insufficient for what Call of Duty requires. The system is notorious for slow download speeds, high latency, and general connection issues. So even if Activision somehow got the games to run on Switch, it’d be a nightmare to play them online.

The only way we would see a Call of Duty game on Switch is via the Cloud. As Capcom did with Resident Evil 7, Activision could release a cloud version of Vanguard or Warzone. However, latency would make them frustrating to play.

So, until the Switch 2 comes out, don’t count on seeing a Call of Duty release date for a Nintendo console.
