Sony Sees A Potential Future Without Physical Games

Fergal Gara, the marketing director of Sony Computer Entertainment's UK branch, recently spoke about the move to digital, saying that it is quite possible that the physical retail model of game delivery will become a thing of the past entirely.

Speaking to VG247, Gara explained:

Compared to PS3, Vita has had a higher percentage of games bought digitally since it was first launched. More Vita games are still consumed through physical game cards than they are through digital, but things are increasingly moving the other way. Could be that in future physical games becomes the side we do without.

With Sony's recent announcement of its Gaikai-powered streaming service, PlayStation Now, it's clear the company is embracing a digital-centric future. Couple that with all of its efforts in making PlayStation Plus such a compelling service, and it's easy to see where Gara is coming from.
