Visit ModernWarfare3.com To Check Out… Battlefield 3?

Activision's Call of Duty and EA's Battlefield have been entrenched in a bitter battle for the top spot in modern military shooters. Call of Duty is the reigning champeen, and the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is set to break sales records set by its predecessor. This means EA has to pull out all of the stops to come out the victor.

Fierce competition tends to lead to unconventional tactics. But this one is probably the funniest case of chicanery I've seen in the video game industry.

Go ahead, open another browser (you wouldn't want to leave GR, would you?), and type in ModernWarfare3.com… It takes you to rival game website for Battlefield 3. Wait… that's definitely not supposed to be like that.

Is this EA pulling some hilarious shenanigans? Who knows. We did check the WhoIs domain information, and there are absolutely no links to EA or any of EA's partners. Meaning, it could just as well be a supportive fan pulling a fast one on Activision. Yeah, right.
