Samsung launches Galaxy XR, first Android XR headset
According to Google The Keyword Blog, Samsung has launched the new Galaxy XR in response to Apple’s new Vision Pro upgrade. XR stands for Extended Reality and combines features of both virtual and augmented reality. It aims to blend the real and virtual worlds to give users an out-of-body experience.
Customers can now command Google’s Gemini using the Galaxy XR headset and experience new places, apps, and games. They can navigate any virtual environment while staying rooted in their present location using their hands, eyes, and voice. If a user commands Gemini to go to New York, the Galaxy XR will virtually fly them across the city.
Further, users can utilize the infinite screen space with their favorite apps from Google Play. Samsung has reimagined and upgraded fan-favorite Google apps, such as YouTube, Google Maps, and Chrome. Consumers can also use the device to watch movies or YouTube videos. Through XR, the characters appear as if they are 3D on a massive, resizable screen. This gives buyers an out-of-body experience, as if it’s actually happening in front of them.
Additionally, consumers can access entertainment services like Crunchyroll and HBO Max. They can also access immersive games from studios such as Mirrorscape and Resolution Games.
Galaxy XR can create a wholesome, personalised workspace. Consumers can browse through multiple apps and tabs simultaneously on a screen of their choice and size. Furthermore, one can also take history lessons by asking Gemini about a place, its structure, and significance.
Per Tech Crunch, Samsung prices its Galaxy XR at $1,800, nearly half the cost of Apple’s new Vision Pro at $3,499. Samsung’s headset offers up to 2 hours of general use and up to 2.5 hours of video playback. In comparison, Apple’s new Vision Pro now features 30 minutes more battery life than its previous version. The new headset offers up to 2.5 hours of general use and up to 3 hours of video playback. This is slightly more than Samsung’s Galaxy XR.
Furthermore, the Galaxy XR weighs 545 grams, making it lighter, while Apple’s new Vision Pro weighs between 750 and 800 grams.
