10 Tips for Success in World of Warcraft Legion

World of Warcraft is mere days away from entering a new era. World of Warcraft: Legion is upon us, and with it all new game features and systems. While pre-release media has focused on the Order Hall system and Demon Hunter class, there's a lot more to the expansion that you will want to be familiar with if you want to be successful.

In order to get you off on the right footing, we have 10 tips we learned while playing the Legion Beta. You can read them below.

1. Grab Two Primary Professions

Legion will include an array of new features for professions. While a few of these were introduced in the 7.0 update, such as the new interface and removal of level requirements for most recipes, perhaps the most notable addition are profession quests. These will be available for every profession, and will not only reward attractive items, but experience points. Many of them are interesting, too. You will want to make sure you have two primary professions chosen heading into the expansion so that you can pick up these quests.

2. Commit To a Spec

The spec freedom of the previous several expansions is going to be killed off with Legion. Due to the format of the artifact system, switching specs is greatly discouraged. When you switch specs you won't be able to bring over your progression through the artifact tree, which includes major perks for your class. It's much more drastic than the traditional "having to find a new weapon" that World of Warcraft has revolved around for many years. So, commit to a spec, and watch yourself become stronger much faster.

3. Bring Mobility

Several of Legion's zones are very tall and filled with obstacles. Take Azsuna for example, a zone composed of 40% water, and 50 mountains. These zones can be a chore to get around if you don't have some form of slow fall and water walking. Bring the items that you need to get around as quickly as possible, such as goblin gliders and maybe a Shaman friend. With these you'll avoid some of painful locomotion that others will be dealing with.

4. Read Up On Lore

Legion has a remarkable story to tell that includes several of Warcraft's most notable entities. It's understandable that most players don't know much about these characters, and the history of the Broken Isles. But it's worth heading to a wiki to educate yourself on characters like Gul'dan and Sargeras. You will get much more out of the narrative experience as a result.

5. Prioritize Your Class Campaign

The Order Hall is perhaps an even more significant element of the expansion than you may be expecting. You will obtain gear, bonuses to your artifact tree progression, and lead into key quests and story moments by working through your class campaign. Similar to the Warlords of Draenor Garrison, you should head back to your Order Hall often to see what quests are available. Prioritize these quests and reap the benefits.

6. Dungeon Grinding Is Slow Experience

This is the first World of Warcraft expansion where I can say that grinding dungeons is absolutely not the way to go. Not only is completing each zone pivotal to your progression, but dungeons simply don't give much experience reward. However, you will obtain a dungeon quest after completing each zone which does provide substantial reward, so just save your dungeon completions for these.

7. Healers May Want To Level As DPS

Since dungeon grinding doesn't work well, and healers do far less experience than DPS specs, if you plan to main a healer you may want to consider maining a DPS spec during the journey from 100 to 110. In my case, I will be maining a Monk. I would never bother leveling as Mistweaver even though I plan to play it at level cap. Windwalker is a much better choice for the leveling experience.

8. Zone Completion Is Important

Zone completion in Legion is a major element of progression. There are a total of four major zones that you will want to have completed as soon as possible. These won't be completed naturally while you're leveling, so you'll need to head out into the world at level 110 and warp things up. Completion of these zones grants you access to factions as well as new world quests.

9. Choose a Class That You Love

Class fantasy has been a priority for Legion's design during development. Because of this, playing a class that you're genuinely interested in will be more important than ever before. Don't worry too much about class balance and what is trending. Instead, think about what class you think is cool and exciting. If you follow this, you will get a lot more out of Legion as it takes class identity very seriously.

10. Anticipate Server Issues

If there's one thing you can expect for certain when Legion launches, it's server issues. It happens every time a big new package like a World of Warcraft expansion arrives on the market. We're talking lag, extremely long queues, and more. Be sure to bring some patience during launch week, and you may not want to bother taking any time off work/school until a week later.
