Biohazard: Vendetta Trailer Reminds Us Of Why We Need Resident Evil 7

Resident Evil 7 is coming out next year, but that's not stopping the makers of the Resident Evil CGI film series from keeping on. A trailer dropped today for Biohazard: Vendetta, a film that acts as a direct sequel to Resident Evil 6, but all it does is remind us all why we need now more than ever the drastic shift in tone and gameplay in Resident Evil 7.

The movie looks generic as hell, and brings back the horrible memories of playing through the tired third-person-shooter gameplay that almost brought the series down entirely. Resident Evil 7 is a breath of fresh air, once again imbuing pure horror into the series – not replacing horror with huge damage-sponge boss battles (presumably like the one shown at :55 in this trailer).

I understand that people may have grown tired with the same-old "zombies are scary," schtick, but I don't think the solution was borne out of a "well what if we made it more badass and action-packed" sentiment. Instead, Resident Evil 5 & 6 were, and we're all the worse for it.

Instead, they should have done what they are doing with Resident Evil 7, instead of doing the exact same thing, they're just shifting their focus, but staying with true horror, not tired "badass" tropes, that come with equally overdone gameplay.

So thank you, Biohazard: Vendetta for reminding us all of why Capcom made the drastic shift it did with Resident Evil 7. If you're one of those people complaining about the nature of the series after the reveal of its latest title, I ask you: do you prefer the alternative?
