Recently, speculation has grown around a Resident Evil PC rerelease coming soon, bringing the classic back from the dead. Well, it turns out the rumors were correct, as Capcom has indeed made its iconic survival horror game available once more.
Resident Evil lives on
While the original Resident Evil is on PC for the first time in years, it should be said that it’s not available on Steam. The game has actually been released on Good Old Games, as outlined in a recent post by the company on X (formerly Twitter).
While it’s not a remaster of the 1996 classic, the GOG store page says that this version has been given “full compatibility with Windows 10 and Windows 11.” It’s basically the same as the original release, though it has been given a few tweaks, including an “improved DirectX game renderer” and “improved timing of the cutscenes,” among other things.
If that wasn’t enough, in another post on X, GOG has also said that both the OG Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 will also be available soon. Currently, there’s no release date, but you can pre-purchase the bundle pack over on the store page, which will come with all three games.
To see Resident Evil on PC again is an exciting time for any fans of this legendary horror title, made ever more so by the second and third games coming hot on its heels. At the time of writing, there’s no word on whether this or any of the upcoming rereleases will make it to Steam.
Going down in the annals of video game history as the most influential survival horror series ever, Resident Evil is still going strong to this day. While Capcom continues to develop new entries, as well as remake the older ones, it’s good to see these retro PC installments are being given a new lease on life.
