XGIMI Elfin Flip 4K Projector Review

XGIMI Elfin Flip 4K Projector Review

The XGIMI Elfin Flip 4K attempts to squeeze serious home-projector performance into something compact enough to carry between rooms or take on a trip. With triple-laser projection, optical zoom, Google TV, and some especially interesting gaming features, there is plenty packed inside. After testing it for two weeks, here is my review.

Flip it and move it

At 1.55 kg, the Elfin Flip 4K is considerably easier to move around than most high-performance projectors. Its folding stand doubles as a handle and protects the lens when closed, while the adjustable angle makes projecting onto a wall or ceiling straightforward.

Autofocus, automatic keystone correction, and obstacle avoidance all worked reliably during my testing. The optical zoom is another big win, allowing me to resize the picture without repeatedly moving the entire projector.

For those of us who don’t have dedicated “home cinemas” where a projector can live, this more portable and flexible solution can be a real game-changer.

Looking sharp

Paired with my 120-inch Duronic FFPS120 screen, the pixel-shifted 4K image looked impressively sharp. Movie mode was the highlight, producing convincing colours without the excessive saturation seen in some other presets. For example, the Game mode boosts colours more aggressively, but still looks good.

Comparing it with the TITAN Noir Max, which I’ve also tested, is wildly unfair, but useful for showing what spending significantly more can achieve. The flagship is dramatically brighter and produces deeper blacks, but the Elfin Flip 4K delivers a surprisingly convincing experience from a much smaller body and cheaper package.

Daylight viewing is possible, but I would reserve it for casual content. Movies that rely heavily on visual impact lose too much when the picture becomes washed out. Darkness is where this projector shines.

Ready for gaming

Gaming performance is one of the biggest victories. Call of Duty on PS5 and Fortnite on Switch 2 both felt responsive at 4K/60Hz, with no additional input delay that I could perceive. Support for 1080p/120Hz, VRR, and ALLM adds further flexibility.

I also took the Elfin Flip 4K on a recent trip in place of my usual MoGo 4 Laser. The increase in brightness, sharpness, and gaming performance was significant, making it an excellent hotel-room gaming companion.

Portable, with an asterisk

The obvious limitation is the lack of a battery. Unlike the MoGo 4 Laser, the Elfin always needs a power socket. This does mean fewer limitations and more power to play with, however. For example, “Boost Mode” can provide additional brightness. Though this comes with its own drawbacks, as fan noise increases.

The built-in speaker is perfectly adequate for casual viewing, though headphones or a soundbar are preferable for competitive gaming and movies, respectively.

Final Verdict

At $999, the XGIMI Elfin Flip 4K offers an excellent combination of sharp visuals, gaming performance, and room-to-room portability. It works best in darker environments and its lack of battery limits true portability, but few projectors this compact feel quite so capable.
