Here Are The Rarest And Most Difficult Resident Evil 7 Achievements

It's been about a week for Resident Evil 7, which means we have a decent sample size of people who've played the game. Although a surprisingly small amount of people have an achievement for completing the game on any difficulty, we come from a place of understanding (this game is scary, OK?).

Besides, there are bigger fish to fry, in terms of Resident Evil 7 achievements. We looked at Steam's global achievement stats, PSNProfiles and TrueAchievements.com. Of course, Steam's numbers will get priority, since they track everyone who has the game on Steam, not just people who subscribe to it.

Here are the rarest and, evidently, most difficult achievements across all platforms. Proceed with caution.

5. Walk It Off

Unlock by: Completing the game using only 3 first-aid kits or less.

Steam lists this as the sixth, most difficult achievement, with only 2.4% of gamers unlocking it, but trueachievements.com for Xbox One and PSNProfiles.com lists this as 4 and 5 respectively with a comparatively low amount of people completing it.

Considering that I used two first-aid kits pretty much the moment first-aid kits were introduced in Resident Evil 7, I can see how this one would be a particular challenge. In fact, I'm amazed it's not the rarest achievement, as it seems like it may be the most difficult. Or at least, one of them.

4. Pelicans In Your Pocket

Unlock by: Obtaining all Antique Coins in Easy or Normal difficulty.

For the more detail-oriented and otherwise time-committed players, this wouldn't seem to be too hard. In fact, I'm not sure it is, especially considering that this information is readily available to anyone with access to Google. But, only 1.2%-10.05% of players have reached this achievement, depending on which platform you measure.

No to mention that, if you wanted to do it by yourself and with no help from our abundantly detailed FAQs, I could certainly see how this would be an issue, as these locations can be rather tricky (and even we haven't found every single one of them.

3. Who's Your Daddy Now?

Unlock by: Completing the game on Madhouse difficulty.

While I'm tempted to say that it's only been a week, so we should wait this one out, Resident Evil 7 can be completed reasonably in 5-10 hours on any difficulty, especially if you already know what to do and when the scripted moments will come. This will make your traversing the Baker family estate a much more brisk experience.

That being said, it's not hard to find yourself up you-know-what creek without a paddle, even on the lower difficulties. I managed to sink all my ammo in to meaningless Jack Baker encounters at one point, leaving me with only a knife with which to fight for a not-insignificant portion of my play time. If I did that on Madhouse? Forget about it.

Total achievement rate across all platforms? 2-6 percent.

2. Resource Manager

Unlock by: Completing the game without opening the Item Box more than 3 times.

Again, this is one of those achievements that I missed out on in the first safe room, and I'd love to see a gosu playthrough with Resource Manager. I feel like you'd need to plan out your game ten steps ahead, and judiciously pick up and discard items as needed.

Still, though, I can't tell you how often I stored things that I might need in the future, but second-guessed myself and grabbed seconds later. This is the kind of achievement only those with an intimate knowledge of the game could reasonably accomplish. It's no wonder only .7 percent of players on Steam have unlocked this one.

1. Mad Pelicans

Unlock by: Obtaining all of the Antique Coins in Madhouse Difficulty.

Now, I'm tempted to copy and paste the body of number four on this list, but a new thought occured to me: Speedruns. So many people are trying to get the achievement for completing the game in under four hours, and that goes doubly for Madhouse Difficulty, where the bragging rights would be immeasurable.

Take this fellow on Reddit, for instance, who missed the achievement by four minutes. Most of the comments on his post are recommending that he not explore as much if he wants a reasonable shot at the achievement, and I'm guessing finding Antique Coins is the first exploration bit to go, especially considering that Madhouse difficulty ups the number of coins to 33, as opposed to 18 on Normal.

So, once speedrunning stops being a thing, (spoiler alert, it won't), these achievements should go up in percentages. As of now, it's the least-unlocked achievement across all platforms, with a .6 to 4 percent unlock rate.
