Tell GR: What’s the Most Time You’ve Ever Spent in a Beta?

This month has been big for betas. Not only did Call of Duty WWII enjoy its first publicly available multiplayer beta over the weekend, but in just a few minutes Destiny 2‘s PC beta will become available. Even Dissidia Final Fantasy NT had a beta last week.

As much as these games are fun, the most time I ever spent in a beta was with Warhammer Online in 2008. At that time I was burned out on World of Warcraft after raiding at a hardcore level for more than a year. Yet, I was itching for a PvP focused MMO to spend thousands of more hours on.

I ended up falling prey to the Warhammer Online marketing hype, leading me to pre-order the collector’s edition, and play the beta for more than 40 hours. That might not seem like much, but you have to consider that I was well aware that I would lose all my progress, including my levels and gear. My excuse was that I wanted to learn the PvP metagame and use that to crush my enemies once release hit.

Like many players, I would end up playing Warhammer Online for a couple weeks at launch before quitting the game. I never returned. R.I.P.
