What Are You Playing? No Man’s Sky, Slipstream, and Breath of the Wild

There’s a retro vibe to the GameRevolution staff’s game choices this week, with arcade racers, platformers, and Tony Hawk games getting a spin at GR Towers. We’ve also been diving into Yakuza 0 on PC, along with No Man’s Sky and its NEXT update.

But what have you been playing this week? Let us know in the comments below!

Paul Tamburro, Executive Editor: I’ve been playing Slipstream. It’s a throwback to old arcade racers of the ’90s — think Top Gear on the SNES, but with more drifting. There are a whole bunch of visual options that give it even more of a retro look, including CRT and NTSC settings. I’ve become pretty obsessed with it. You should check it out.

Jason Faulkner, Senior Editor: I’ve been playing Yakuza 0 for PC and finishing up Octopath Traveler for review. Both great games, but what really piqued my interest (as of yesterday) is No Man’s Sky. I hadn’t played it since launch and decided to head back in after the NEXT update and it feels more like I’m playing a sequel than an updated game. Everything just feels so much better, there’s more to do, and the pacing (which was one of the roughest parts on launch) is tons better. I love space games and I’m glad to see that No Man’s Sky is finally coming close to the original vision Hello Games had.

Mack Ashworth, Lead Editor: I’m back in the world of Breath of the Wild. I know it’s old news at this point, but it’s blowing me away. Dedicated to completing it this time! Then there’s Fortnite, which I’ve been streaming!

Bradley Russell, Guides: I’m continuing my never-ending voyage down the PS2 rabbit hole this week with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3. It’s… not as good as I remember but saved by an incredible soundtrack. I think I’ll only go through the Career Mode once because completing everything at 100% 23 times to unlock the Neversoft mascot is absolute lunacy.

Aimee Hart, News: I’ve been spending my time punching alien robots to death in Mothergunship. You may ask, wait, why punching? Well because I’m terrible at the game and unable to stockpile my ammo and weapons accordingly. That said, it’s a fun little game and great when you just want to destress and not think about anything.

Astrid Johnson, News: I’ve been playing this really cool game, kinda an ARG, definitely some AR elements, it’s called “Sweet Christ there are so many boxes and all of them contain my worldly possessions.” I definitely think it needs a better tutorial when it comes out of beta, mind you.

David Lozada, Features: I’ve actually been playing some Psychonauts recently. I bought the game for cheap on the PSN flash sale this past weekend and I’m loving it so far. Somehow, Tim Schafer never ceases to impress me with the crazy worlds he comes up with. If you’re reading this, Mr. Schafer, please make a Double Fine art book with sketches from every game you’ve ever made. I’d buy that in an instant.

Toby Saunders, News: As usual, I’ve been playing an awful lot of Rocket League. I even scored a goal after flicking the ball over another player with a backflip, which you may or may not have seen on my Twitter. Aside from giving in to my crippling Rocket League addiction, I’ve been playing through Yakuza 0 and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. I highly recommend both.

Alleef Ashaari, Guides: I’ve been playing several Telltale Games’ titles for the past month. I finally got around to playing The Wolf Among Us, to see why the game was so critically acclaimed. It’s now my favorite game from the developer, and completing that game made me want to check out the source material. Here’s hoping the upcoming Season 2 lives up to expectations. In the meantime, I’ll be here reading Fables.
