In this December 3 edition of Retro Ad Replay, we’re looking back 25 years to when the original PlayStation launched. December 3, 1994 was the day of celebration for gamers in Japan. (The PlayStation wouldn’t launch until late 1995 in other countries.) The launch day line-up consisted of Ridge Racer, Crime Crackers, TAMA, Mahjong Station Mazin, Mahjong Goku Sky: Atsushi, Nekketsu Oyako, A. IV Evolution, and Gokujou Parodius Da! Deluxe Pack (via Wikipedia).

The E3 1995 price announcement is also worthy of a watch. “299” is was the launch price of the PlayStation in North America, which beat the $399 price of the Sega Saturn, Sony’s nearest rival at this time. Watch that moment below.
Though GameRevolution didn’t review the original PlayStation, our sister site PlayStation LifeStyle did recently took a look at the PlayStation Classic. This mini version of the original console celebrated the system that started it all for Sony, and included a number of memorable titles including Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken 3, Twisted Metal, and many more.
25 years after the launch of the original PlayStation, we’re now awaiting more information about the PS5. This fifth PlayStation is set to launch towards the end of 2020, though you can already feel the hype starting to build. With Microsoft also readying its next system, competition is sure to be fierce, just like it was with Sony and Sega all those years back.
