1MORE TRUE WIRELESS ANC EARPHONES REVIEW. In 2020, the standout feature for most premium earphones is noise cancelation. Of course, it’s also important for the earphones to still sound good with ANC enabled, to successfully drown out background noise while keeping music, podcasts, and videos all sounding great. It’s a tricky balance, but I’m happy to say that 1MORE delivers on a great listening experience. This is the full review.
Box of tricks
The 1MORE True Wireless ANC earphones make a great first impression. You get the headphones, obviously, as well as the charging case. This case can be charged using the included USB-C cable or via a Qi wireless charging pad. There are four pairs of different-sized silicone ear tips and three pairs of silicone “O-hooks.” Then there’s a carrying pouch and user manual.
Looking at the earphones themselves, I’m very happy to see the hooks for inside the ear. Whether I’m exercising or just out and about moving with some pace, I always get worried about dropping my more expensive in-ears. These earphones stay in during even the most intense exercise.
The earphones have an infrared sensor, for knowing when they are in the user’s ears. Take one out, and the music pauses. It’s a convenience that comes in handy all of the time, similar to how AirPods work. Then there are microphones that work to capture the user’s voice and also for noise cancelation. The mics are also used in pass-through mode to add ambient sound to the mix, which is great for moving through busy environments full of traffic.
A physical button is used for various functions. It’s positioned well and requires a simple sideways squeeze. Some earphones require a button being pushed that sends the unit further into the ear which can cause discomfort or compromise a seal. 1MORE opts for a much better solution.
Of course, earphones only really shine in the listening. With the ability to give two hours of playback time with just 15 minutes charging, I was immediately topped up and ready for testing.
The listening experience
Connecting to my iPhone via Bluetooth 5.0, I did the three activities that I usually wear ANC earphones for: working at my PC with music playing at a relatively low volume, exercising with volume at almost max with pass-through audio from outside, and reading with ANC enabled but no music. This all took place over a week, with me swapping to other ANC earphones for a comparison and cleanse.
We’ll start with the positives, which came during my time listening at low volume with ANC enabled and working. These earphones have an obvious boost in the treble, but without emphasizing sibilant frequencies, and mids that help the vocals remain clear. The general spaciousness of the sound is surprisingly nice and open. Bass has a nice punch but doesn’t outstay its welcome.
Cranking the volume up for my exercise test is where things got a little messy. For the music I was listening to, which was a mixture of rap, rock, and pop, the accentuated treble really stuck out. Now, it’s not so problematic as to grate on the ears with unbearable sibilance, but it’s definitely worth mentioning. With some Top 40 songs already having their treble boosted in mastering in an attempt for more clarity, these earphones emphasize that further still.
Pass-through ANC was satisfactory, allowing me to hear enough of my surroundings while in the wilderness. On its own with no music playing, the ANC clearly reduces bassy noises, while the seal of the silicone tips work to physically block out everything else. It works well enough, but I’d say that the Sony WF-1000XM3 does it better.
Comfort was never an issue with the 1MORE True Wireless ANC earphones. They fit wonderfully and there’s little risk of them falling out with the O-hooks. I only took them out to charge them, which was after around 3-4 hours of use with ANC constantly enabled.
1MORE True Wireless ANC Earphones Review | The Final Verdict
Currently on sale at $139.99, but normally available for $199.99, the 1MORE True Wireless ANC earphones are priced in a similar range to the Sony WF-1000XM3. That is some tough competition when it comes to audio features, but I think the 1MORE earphones come out on top when it comes to comfort and ability to stay in the ear during intense activities. They are ideal for listeners with an active lifestyle. If that’s a priority for you, then these deserve to be on your shortlist, especially when there is a sale on!
