‘ChatGPT 5 vs. Grok 5’ Trend Explained Amid Elon Musk’s Promise

Hours after OpenAI launched GPT-5, Elon Musk fired back on X (formerly Twitter), claiming Grok 4 Heavy was “smarter” than ChatGPT 5. The rivalry between two leading artificial intelligence systems has only intensified, and “ChatGPT 5 vs. Grok 5” is trending, after the tech mogul teased the launch of Grok 5.

‘ChatGPT 5 vs. Grok 5’ trend explained

The Tesla CEO’s latest posts on the social media platform X have prompted fans to discuss whether Grok 5 can overtake ChatGPT 5.

Elon Musk shared several posts after GPT-5 was released, including announcing the release of Grok 5 by the end of the year.

In another one of the posts, the X owner stated, “Grok 4 Heavy was smarter 2 weeks ago than GPT5 is now and G4H is already a lot better.”

On another tweet, Musk claimed, “Grok 4 beats GPT-5 on ARC-AGI.”

For the uninitiated, ARC-AGI stands for the Abstraction and Reasoning Corpus for Artificial General Intelligence. It is a benchmark designed to measure the general intelligence of AI systems. Usually, ARC-AGI checks various AIs’ ability to reason abstractly, solve novel problems, and adapt to new situations using minimal prior information. (via ARC Prize)

As per Musk, not only is Grok 4 “smarter” than OpenAI’s GPT 5 but the future models also hold huge promise. In another X post, he teased, “Grok 5 will be out before the end of this year, and it will be crushingly good.”

Meanwhile, Elon Musk’s X posts have sparked a widespread discussion on this matter as users weigh in. One user wrote, “Pushing forward AI is a great move that we all should be aiming to and Elon is pushing it the hardest IMO.”

Another user had a different opinion and responded to Musk. They wrote, “But you’re comparing GPT5, a free model, against a model locked behind a $300 a month subscription. Not really shocking that Grok 4 Heavy would be better.”

Additionally, many users have been raving about the new update from GPT. It comes in five tiers: Free, Plus, Pro, Team, and Enterprise. The free version of GPT-5 will let users do free web searches, utilize the voice mode, and even upload files. Moreover, the plus version, which costs $20, features higher usage limits. It also boasts some advanced voice features and limited Sora video generation.
