Go to Mt.Bur-Omisace and talk to the Acolyte, who will give you a stone. Take that stone to the Waystine in the Stillshrine of Miriam and use it to batter Zeromus. You won't be able to use magic, so pack a ton of phoenix downs and X-potions. Also, you should be above level 45!
In the Lhusu Mines, further along in the game around the time of the Gilgamesh mark hunt, check out the diagonal bridge areas and look for a Black Bomb or Bullitt to appear. They have a chance to drop the Darkblade.
In order to get the Zodiac Spear, the most powerful weapon in the game, there are 4 chests you must NOT, I repeat, NOT open as you progress through the game.
1.) In Lowtown, outside Old Dylan's place, leave the chest alone.
2.) While you're sneaking into the palace, avoid the chests in the southeast corner.
3.) In the Confiscatory (when your equipment is taken), leave every chest alone. (That sucks, I agree.)
4.) On the Phon Coast, there's an island with a bunch of chests. Leave them.
If you can manage all that, you can find the Zodiac Spear in the Necrohol of Nabudis. It's got +150 attack power, so it's worth it.
