Zwift Ride with KICKR CORE 2 Review

Zwift Ride with KICKR CORE 2 Review

The Zwift Ride with Wahoo KICKR Core 2 combines smart resistance, virtual shifting, and game-like progression in one indoor cycling setup. As a runner looking for lower-impact training without heading onto local roads, it immediately appealed to me. After a month of testing, here is my review.

Easy does it

Despite arriving across three boxes, assembly was straightforward. The trainer, controllers, and app all connected without problems.

The included Zwift Key handles most adjustments and stores magnetically beneath the frame. Reach and handlebar adjustments are super smooth, though the seat post occasionally sticks slightly and requires a bit more force.

My Ride remains permanently assembled in the kitchen. Thankfully, its clean white design looks surprisingly smart and blends nicely with the surrounding appliances. It’s wife-approved, which is a win!

Built to fit

Zwift Ride with KICKR CORE 2 Review

Zwift recommends the Ride for users up to 198 cm tall. At 200 cm, I exceed that limit but remain perfectly comfortable. Only the handlebar height is maxed out, while the seat and reach can extend farther.

It is also very easy to share. My wife and I can quickly switch between settings, letting us both fit in morning workouts without sacrificing more time in bed.

Initial saddle soreness faded as I became accustomed to cycling, although I eventually fitted a wider seat that my wife prefers. The fixed 170 mm cranks caused no problems.

Let’s ride

The steel frame remains stable during harder efforts and when standing. It is also quiet enough that I can train in the kitchen without waking my wife upstairs.

The KICKR Core 2 simulates gradients up to 16%, making steeper climbs seriously demanding. Its 24 virtual gears shifted quickly, while the handlebar controls made in-game actions convenient.

Structured workouts have been a main highlight. ERG mode held the target power, leaving me to focus on cadence. You need to prepare before tougher intervals begin, but resistance changes otherwise felt smooth.

Game on

Zwift Ride with KICKR CORE 2 Review

I ran Zwift’s Android app on an HP Elite C1030 Chromebook. Performance was good, although I occasionally restarted it to detect every accessory.

I mainly completed structured workouts and free rides. The virtual environments, other cyclists, unlocks, and route progression made sessions much more motivating than simply watching fitness numbers change.

Ticket to ride

Zwift Ride with KICKR CORE 2 Review

At $1,299.99 plus $75 US delivery, the bundle represents good value next to premium smart bikes. However, Zwift’s continuing $19.99 monthly or $199.99 annual subscription is expensive. The platform received substantial new content during 2025, but continued development will be essential to justify that recurring cost.

Final Verdict

The Zwift Ride with KICKR Core 2 is quiet, stable, highly adjustable, and genuinely enjoyable. Its fixed cranks, substantial weight, and expensive subscription keep it from a perfect score, but the easy multi-user adjustments and game-like motivation make it an excellent indoor setup for cyclists, runners, and beginners.
