Destiny 2 at Capacity: Are Destiny 2 Servers Down?

Destiny 2 may be a great time when playing with or against your friends, but not when the game hits network issues. Online games can sometimes go offline which seems to have happened with Destiny 2. With the launch of Shadowkeep players are experiencing Destiny 2 at Capacity error in droves, which seems to pose the question, “Are Destiny 2 servers down?” Let’s take a look.

Destiny 2 at Capacity: Are Destiny 2 Servers Down?

Yes, the Destiny 2 servers were down. But they seem to be back up in some capacity. The game just launched on Steam so there’s a ton of players attempting to connect. People were running into “Chicken” errors which usually indicates servers are busy. The studio intends for Destiny 2 servers to stay online but connectivity might be spotty for the next day or so.

Players on the Xbox One and PS4 versions have reported that the servers are up. Bungie’s support has tweeted that people should try to sign in again stated that the “issues causing players on Destiny 2 to encounter Weasel errors have been resolved, and Destiny services are online.” There were reports of some people being trapped in a queue, but it is unclear how many people are affected.

Destiny 2 at Capacity: What is the Weasel Error?

The Destiny 2 Weasel error seems to be at the root of the servers going down. But it is not new. In fact, it’s been a problem for the game for quite sometime. We wrote a guide on it a few months ago. Essentially, it is caused by server issues, which makes sense given that Bungie was working on the servers. It could either be your connection or something with Bungie. Given the circumstances this time, it’s Bungie’s fault this time.

On its website, Bungie describes Weasel as “a split-off error that was previously grouped under Centipede,” which is yet another error code. The studio differentiates these errors to be more specific about what the issue is.
