Unfortunately, there are two answers to the “do you need to be online to play Volta on FIFA 20?” question. You both will and won’t have to be connected online in order to play the various Volta modes on offer in FIFA 20. It’s frustrating stuff. Thankfully, we’re here to make things easier for you. Sadly, you will need to be connected online to play the main Volta modes such as Story, League, and World.

As far as we’re aware, you will need to be always online in order to play the main Volta modes in FIFA 20. This means that if you aren’t connected to the internet, you won’t be able to play through the Volta Story mode. You won’t be able to play Volta League or World without being connected to the internet, either. This is annoying as it means you are entirely reliant on your connection and EA’s servers to play through the Volta Story, and those servers appear to go down fairly often. We’re unsure whether you’ll need PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold in order to play the Volta Story mode, but if you need to be connected online in order to play it at all, you may well do.

Thankfully, you don’t need to be online in order to play standard matches of Volta from the Kick-Off menu. You will be able to play against the computer and your friends without the need for the internet.
