As we recently discovered with the rumored demise of a creative game called Roblox, not all news should necessarily be taken at face value. With similar rumors now swirling about video-sharing social media platform TikTok, which allows its users to publish short-form mobile videos and showcase their creativity, lots of people are wondering when will Tik Tok shut down? Here’s what you need to know about the status of TikTok as we enter 2020 and a whole new decade.
Will Tik Tok shut down in 2020?
Many are choosing to believe online rumblings that TikTok is set to close down in 2020, but, fortunately, that doesn’t appear to be the case at all. Some people might try to argue that there isn’t smoke without fire, but this isn’t the first time that TikTok has been said to face imminent closure and yet remains active.
October 26, 2018, was rumored to be the social platform’s last day just over 14 months ago, though evidently that wasn’t the case. At that time, the official TikTok US Twitter account (@tiktok_us) published a pair of tweets debunking these rumors.

First, the company labeled them “#FakeNews” before moving to offer greater clarification by saying “Hi. No, we’re not shutting down.”
Hi. No, we're not shutting down. So… any fun weekend plans?

Although TikTok hasn’t commented in a similar fashion on the latest spate of rumors, that doesn’t automatically mean that there’s any truth to them. The rumors aren’t quite as widespread this time around, plus commenting on rumor and speculation isn’t something that most companies make a frequent habit of doing.
If anything, TikTok appears to be growing in popularity as we enter the new decade instead of waining to the point it would need to close down. Several large companies are joining the platform in order to increase their social reach, including WWE last month. The leading professional wrestling organization is a social media powerhouse, with well over 1 billion followers across its various social channels.
