The generous folks at Nintendo, Game Freak, and The Pokemon Company implemented a system into Pokemon Sword and Shield that allows them to gift players various in-game valuables, ranging from items right through to actual Pokemon. Claiming your gifts is simple, but first, you’ll need to know what codes to enter and that’s where we come in. Pokemon Sword and Shield 2020 Mystery Gift codes
Mystery Gift codes are often given out by official Pokemon social media accounts, including those dedicated to other regions of the world. Lucky for us, the codes aren’t region-specific, so a Mystery Gift intended for Japanese Pokemon Sword or Pokemon Shield players can also be claimed by those based in, for example, the United States and Europe.

Currently, there are six active Mystery Gift codes to be claimed in January 2020. You can take advantage of them in either Pokemon Sword or Pokemon Shield by paying a visit to the in-game Mystery Gift menu, which we’ll walk you through shortly. Before then, as one final note, be aware that all Mystery Gift codes have an expiry date and you shouldn’t delay when it comes to redeeming them.
How to redeem Mystery Gifts in Pokemon Sword and Shield
- Press the “X” button to pause the game
- Navigate to the “Mystery Gift” menu
- Select “Get a Mystery Gift”
- Select “Get with Code/Password”
- Your game will connect to the internet and present you with a keyboard used to enter codes

How to get Gigantamax Meowth Mystery Gift in Pokemon Sword and Shield
Not all Mystery Gifts require the redemption of a code or a password. If you’re reading this, then you probably already own either Pokemon Sword or Pokemon Shield on Nintendo Switch. If that’s true and you’re also reading before January 15, 2020, then you can snag yourself a Gigantamax Meowth from the in-game Mystery Gift menu.
How to claim Gigantamax Meowth
- Press the “X” button to pause the game
- Navigate to the “Mystery Gift” menu
- Select “Get a Mystery Gift”
- Select “Get via Internet”
- Your game will connect to the internet and search for available gifts
- When the search is complete, select “Gigantamax Meowth Gift”
You’ll now own a Meowth capable of performing a unique Gigantamax transformation during Gym Leader and Raid battles. Just remember that you need to follow the above steps before January 15, 2020.
