Final Fantasy 7 Remake Chocobo

Can I ride a Chocobo in Final Fantasy 7 Remake and is there Chocobo racing and breeding?

Chocobo breeding and Chocobo racing were a big part of the original Final Fantasy 7. However, since those side quests took place later in the game, fans have wondered whether you’ll even be able to ride a Chocobo in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. These feathery friends are one of the best parts of any Final Fantasy game, but there’s not that much room to ride in Midgar is there?

Is there Chocobo racing and breeding in Final Fantasy 7 Remake?

Since FF7 Remake takes place exclusively in Midgar, it was hoped that some of the activities that take place later in the game in the original would make an earlier appearance. Of all the side quests in the original FF7, the most beloved is Chocobo breeding and racing.

In the original Final Fantasy 7, you have to wait until you obtain the Highwind in Disc 2 before you can breed and race Chocobo. This involved side quest allows you to raise a stable of the friendly birds with the objective of eventually breeding a Blue, Green, Black, and finally Gold Chocobo. These birds allow you to access areas on the map that you can’t land at with the Highwind, and you can nab some very useful items.

Chocobo racing takes place at the Gold Saucer, and you can improve your Chocobo’s stats by racing them. The breeding and racing side quest takes up quite a bit of time and is a highlight of the original game.

Unfortunately, Square Enix didn’t add Chocobo racing and breeding to Final Fantasy 7 Remake. There’s no new racetrack or stables, so you can’t own your own big yellow bird.

Can you ride a Chocobo in Final Fantasy 7 Remake

You’ll be disappointed to know that you can’t ride a Chocobo in FF7 Remake. It makes sense. Midgar is a fairly closed-in location, and there’s not a lot of places where you could successfully navigate a Chocobo.

However, you can unlock fast travel in Chapter 14. This gives you the ability to use Chocobo Sam’s taxi service to move between points in Sector 5 and Sector 6, which is useful. So, you’ll at least get to see chocobos, even if you can’t ride them.
