The Ascent

What is The Ascent level cap?

Out now from Neon Giant, The Ascent is a cyberpunk experience like no other. Set in the neon-inflected world of Velas, it was developed by a team of just eleven. You play as a freedom fighter trying to save Velas from a range of crime syndicates, as well as the mysterious Ascent company that rules over all. If you’re looking to upgrade your character to their fullest potential, you’ll have one question: how high can I rank up? We’ve got the answer, and all the details on The Ascent’s level cap.

The Ascent level cap

The Ascent

The progression and levelling system in The Ascent isn’t as straightforward as most games, and your character level can upgrade infinitely. However, you can upgrade weapons and skills up to level 20. So once you’ve upgraded all of them, you’ve technically hit the maximum rank in The Ascent.

Yes, developers Neon Giant have opted for a progression system that does away with a conventional and linear model. Instead, there are eight main skills that you can invest points into, as listed below:

  • Tactical Sense
  • Critical Hit Rate
  • Weapon Handling
  • Aiming
  • Balance
  • Evasion
  • Vital Signs
  • Body Battery

Once you’ve completed a match of The Ascent, you’ll earn XP points to spend levelling up your skills and gear. You’ll also earn these points when you level up your character. Each of these skills has a maximum level of 20, meaning there’s theoretically 160 levels of character skill progression. Of course, though, you can level up your weapons too, so there’s constantly something for you to upgrade before you reach the max level on all the upgradeable.

Even if you’ve finished levelling up everything, your character will still continue reaching new levels, as there isn’t a specific cap. While it means that you’ll never be able to brag about reaching the max level, it does mean that the upgrades can keep on coming.

In other news, there’s a concerning bug in The Ascent where weapon and character skins are being deleted. Let’s just hope that doesn’t impact your progression.
