PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch fans are expecting a Darkest Dungeon 2 console release date. The original Darkest Dungeon release started off on PC and Mac before moving to consoles, and developer Red Hook Studios has provided some information (though it’s a bit thin) on when DD2 will arrive on consoles after its 1.0 release on May 8. Here’s when to expect Darkest Dungeon 2 to release on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo platforms.
What is the Darkest Dungeon 2 console release date?
Red Hook Studios has not officially announced console release dates for Darkest Dungeon 2 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Conservatively, however, we expect DD2 to arrive on consoles by 2024.
We speculate 2024 as the console release date mainly due to the roadmap for the original Darkest Dungeon. As a refresher, the first game for PC and Mac (OS X) officially came out in January 2016 before releasing on PS4 and Vita in September 2016, iPad (iOS) in August 2017, Switch in January 2018, and then Xbox One in February 2018.
We think that Red Hook Studios may stagger the release dates for various consoles in a similar fashion, though the developer has enough experience at this point for a simultaneous release for multiple consoles. At the bare minimum, we know that a console release date is coming because the developer said as much in an official FAQ on Steam.
If Red Hook Studios is fast enough, we could see Darkest Dungeon 2 release by Winter 2023, which would take advantage of the holiday season. That said, in an update in May the developer stated that it is currently focused on new monsters like the Collector, character skins, and modding support for PC. In fact, there’s no mention of a console release date in the statement, so it’s looking like 2024 is a more likely scenario.
