The Finals Out of Video Memory Error Fix: Why Does it Say I’m Out of VRAM?

Some users trying to launch The Finals are finding an out of video memory error is keeping them from playing the game. Unfortunately, even if you have more than enough VRAM, the game immediately closes after displaying the message. Strangely, the issue is even occurring on PCs equipped with the highest-end video card available right now, the RTX 4090, which has 24GB of video memory, which should be enough to run several instances of The Finals without breaking a sweat. We’ll detail several potential fixes for the problem below.

How to fix The Finals out of video memory error message

If you’re getting the out of video memory error when launching The Finals, you more than likely need to downclock your CPU. Despite the game saying the issue is with your VRAM, if your PC has an i9-13900K (or KF) CPU, then you need to perform a slight downclock to fix the problem. For some reason, Unreal Engine 5 games seem to have some issues with this particular model (and possibly other 13th-generation Intel CPUs).

You can perform the fix through your BIOS if you’d like, but I use the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. Regardless of your method, you just need to change the multiplier on your performance cores only from x55 to x54. For some reason, this extremely small downclock completely fixes the issue in The Finals and any other Unreal Engine 5 game, and it’ll run completely normally.

If you’re still having issues with this error after performing the above fix, try the following:

Update your graphics drivers: If it’s been a while since you’ve installed a new GPU driver, check and see if one is available. It’s possible that’s all that’s preventing you from launching the game as usual.

Restart your PC: Even if you don’t have a driver update, restart your PC and try to relaunch The Finals. Your system might be unstable for one reason or another, or another game or program could be causing a memory leak. A restart should free up enough resources to start the game if this is the case.
