False Alarm: Overwatch Competitive Mode Is Still Scheduled For June

This morning the Overwatch community went up in a roar over a tweet (which has since been deleted) sent by a team member of Blizzard. The tweet mentioned how Competitive Mode has been delayed until July, meaning that players would have to wait even longer for new content.

It turns out that July was a typo. Competitive Mode is still coming in late-June, as mentioned by the official Overwatch twitter:

Sorry about this! Competitive Play will be coming later in *JUNE*, not July. Apologies again for the error.

Competitive Mode is highly anticipated by many Overwatch players for several reasons. For one, the game has only two true modes of play right now: Quick Play and Weekly Brawl. Sadly, Weekly Brawl hasn't been successful, and as a result the game offers a limited amount of content leading to repetition.

Currently, the game only truly supports casual play, leaving hardcore gamers with little room to experiment and grow. Many have relied on Custom Game to practice with other highly experienced players. Competitive Mode will provide a new way to play the game, a way that is focused on high level play, correcting this issue entirely.

Competitive Mode was available in beta testing, and had some problems. Issues stemmed from the format of the ladder as well as hero imbalances. Blizzard responded by delaying the release of the mode from launch day until late-June. Currently, it's unclear what changes will be made during the additional development time.
