Mario Kart Tour is Nintendo’s Brand New Mobile Game

Mario Kart Tour has been announced by Nintendo, with the racing series finally set to make its way to mobile.

The upcoming Mario Kart smartphone game was announced with little fanfare on Twitter, with Nintendo posting the following: “The chequered flag has been raised and the finish line is near. A new mobile application is now in development: Mario Kart Tour! Releasing in the fiscal year ending in March 2019.”

No other information about the game is known, aside from the unveiling of its official logo. The wording of the tweet indicates that the game could be released anywhere between April 2018 and March 2019, though given how few details we have about the game, it’s more than likely that it’ll launch in the latter half of this wide release window.

Mario Kart Tour should follow in the footsteps of Nintendo’s other mobile successes, such as Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp or the blockbuster Pokemon Go. Mario Kart is one of the most appealing Nintendo franchises to “casual” audiences, so bringing it to iOS and Android is a no-brainer. Hopefully, it can replicate the magic of the console series on a smaller screen.
