Analyst: L.A. Noire To Sell 5 Million Units in First Year

Rockstar Games knows how to make a successful game. Grand Theft Auto is among the highest grossing franchises of all time at 100 million units sold, and Red Dead Redemption's staggering 8 million in sales in just under a year on the market is nothing to shake a stick at. Rockstar looks to continue that trend with their upcoming detective drama, L.A. Noire.

The game is already generating quite the buzz, and given Rockstar's track record, it's a shoe-in for success. However, EEDAR's top analyst, Jesse Divnich, believes it won't achieve the same sales that Red Dead Redemption did, despite "handsomely surpassing" 5 million units worldwide.

L.A. Noire will be outrageous! I don’t expect it to do Red Dead Redemption numbers, but certainly expect sales to handsomely surpass 5 million units worldwide in the first year, making it a top 1% title.

From what we've seen of L.A. Noire thus far, it doesn't appear to have the same mainstream draw that GTA and RDR have. But don't let that scare you away, its facial animations and mature-themed scenarios are groundbreaking to say the least.

L.A. Noire releases on May 17th on the Xbox 360 and PS3.
