Dragon Ball Fighterz Switch Version Has New Features, Beta Coming Next Month

Dragon Ball FighterZ has been on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC since January and has made quite a splash in the fighting game genre. It is coming to Nintendo’s console on September 28, but players can try it out before then through the Dragon Ball FighterZ Switch beta. Starting at some undisclosed time in August, Bandai Namco is holding an open beta on the Switch iteration of the game, which will have two-on-two and one-on-one matches as well as an offline six-player party mode over the other versions of the game.

It is unclear whether or not these new features prompted beta testing or if they will even be in the beta at all. It’s also unconfirmed whether or not these new modes will make it into the other versions of the game somewhere down the line, although it would be hard to imagine they would stay locked to the Switch. The tweet announcing the open beta also did not reveal how to sign up, but details will likely come out within the next few weeks.

This anime fighting game has been a big success for developer Arc System Works and publisher Bandai Namco. It shipped over two million copies in just a few weeks. It had the most attendees in this year’s Evo tournament, besting both Street Fighter 5 and Tekken 7, two genre veterans. The game is even still getting DLC, as evidenced by the upcoming Base Goku and Vegeta fighters coming in August.

The Dragon Ball FighterZ Switch version was announced a few months ago along with its release date, but the studio has been quiet about the details. The Switch version isn’t confirmed to come with the DLC fighters, which, given that it isn’t a Game of the Year Edition, is unlikely. Switch players will most likely have to buy each character, which are $5 each on the other platforms.
