Potential Skyward Sword Port May Come to Switch

It seems producer and manager of The Legend of Zelda series Eiji Aonuma is teasing fans about an upcoming Skyward Sword Port for Switch. Fans are responding with excitement about the prospect despite it being a divisive title in part due to its required motion controls for the sword combat.

According to Eurogamer, attendees to a live Zelda concert in Osaka, Japan have been saying Aonuma appeared on stage to hint at the potential for a Skyward Sword Port.

A post on the popular social network Weibo which has gained a lot of traction from fans quotes Aonuma’s statement at the show as being “I know what you are thinking, Skyward Sword for Switch, right?” followed by audience applause.

How well received this post has been still remains to be quite surprising due to the varied reception of Skyward Sword when it launched.

Not only were fans often not impressed by the often finicky motion controls but the addition of Fi, the assistant character was also not something that’s looked back on fondly. She was clearly meant to be a call back to Navi from Ocarina of Time but her dialogue was often even more annoying and overly helpful.

Critically though, Skyward Sword was generally well received and we even called it the best Zelda game yet when we reviewed it on release back in 2011. Not only did we love the motion controls but the art style and exploration were also to be praised. The story was also one of the best in the series as it is the first Zelda canonically and explored previously unknown lore.

As for how likely a Skyward Sword port is it is the next in the series due for an HD recreation after Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Majora’s Mask, and Ocarina of Time have all had the remake treatment. Perhaps we’ll see an announcement at next week’s Game Awards.
