Spyro the Dragon recently returned from his remastered adventures in the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. It’s the second remastered PS1 platformer collection, preceded by the Crash N.Sane Trilogy in 2017. With rumors swirling about Activision’s next platforming announcement, the purple dragon’s Twitter account left a big hint on what the company is planning. If we’re reading the wumpa leaves correctly, we could be seeing a return to Crash Team Racing.

The tweet shows the Spyro drone flying towards a snowy mountainside, assumedly fresh from its visit with Snoop Dogg. The text reads that Spyro has arrived at Glacier Park. While the landscape looks the part, the name has a second meaning. Glacier Park is the third hub world in Crash Team Racing‘s adventure mode. When there, after racing through Blizzard Bluff and Polar Pass, you face off in a boss race with the Komodo Brothers.
Crash Team Racing is Naughty Dog’s final contribution to the Crash Bandicoot franchise. It brought together every character from the first three PS1 platformers into a racing title that rivaled Mario Kart for the PS1 set. As you’d expect, you go across a host of environments collecting power-ups and drifting for boosts. Weapons were appropriate to Crash, including bowling bombs, vials of chemicals and heat-seeking time warps.
As for why Spyro is heading to Glacier Park, we don’t exactly know. Is this a remaster of the original PS1 kart racer or something more? Will Spyro show up as a hidden bonus character alongside Dingodile and Tiny? It’s fair to say that Activision will want to keep going with both franchises considering their newfound success, but who knows if this will be the next time the two PlayStation heroes cross paths. With The Game Awards fast approaching, we’ll more than likely know the answers sooner rather than later.
