[Update] Deus Ex Track Used In After Earth Trailer, Will Smith’s Father-Son Scifi Movie

Last night I saw Oz The Great And Powerful at the theater and as the trailers started to roll before the movie, a new promo for the Smith-family vehicle After Earth immediately struck me as familiar. Maybe the film had used the same music before and now this new trailer captured some awkward sense of déjà vu?

The more I heard the more convinced I was that the track wasn't from After Earth, but from one of my favorite games in the past few years. I whipped my hair back and forth trying to come up with the source for the track, but it didn't take long to recognize Michael McCann's electronic soundscape from Deus Ex: Human Revolution's main menu.

We've compared the two in the video above. Is it an outright rip off? Seems that way to me, but we've contacted Square Enix about the similarities and will update if we get confirmation that the movie studio worked with the Eidos Montreal or the publisher.

[Update]: Commenter Gradieus points us to a tweet from Eidos Montreal confirming the use of DXHR music.
