Bayonetta creator teases Mortal Kombat 11 crossover

Bayonetta creator Hideki Kamiya has teased a potential Mortal Kombat 11 crossover, hinting to his followers that he could be looking at bringing the character to NetherRealm Studios’ fighting game. With Mortal Kombat 11 releasing on the Nintendo Switch and Bayonetta 3 set to launch on the console later this year, it is possible that Bayonetta is planned as future DLC for game.

Kamiya took to Twitter to drop the hint, tweeting: “Mortal Kombat x Bayonetta.” Inevitably, fans of the two series jumped at the bit, with some speculating that the character could make her way to the game as a Switch-exclusive character.

The tweet can be viewed below:

Bayonetta is no stranger to fighting games, after having made a cameo appearance in two Smash Bros. games, including last year’s Super Smash Bros Ultimate. As Mortal Kombat 11 publisher Warner Bros. Interactive is bringing the game to the Switch, Nintendo could be hoping to lure players to its version of the game with exclusive DLC. While most Nintendo-owned properties wouldn’t exactly work well in Mortal Kombat‘s ultra-violent world (imagine Yoshi teeing off against Scorpion?!), Bayonetta is more of a natural fit.

Both Bayonetta and its sequel received a mature rating from the ESRB, so the Platinum Games series is no stranger to violence. Additionally, Mortal Kombat is no stranger to crossovers; the last game in the series’ DLC included in the likes of Alien‘s Xenomorph and Texas Chainsaw Massacre‘s Leatherface. Bayonetta would hardly be as strange a choice as those two iconic horror movie villains.

Kamiya is known for shooting from the hip on Twitter, so this could just be a case of him playing around with his followers. However, with fighting game purists likely picking up Mortal Kombat 11 on the PS4 or PC, Nintendo would be wise to employ additional methods to secure support for the Switch version. Mortal Kombat 11 will be released on April 29, 2019, so if Bayonetta is set to make her way into the game, we should expect to hear more info soon.
