Steve Ballmer Retiring From CEO Position At Microsoft

Microsoft has just announced that company CEO Steve Ballmer will be retiring from is position at the company. His departure will take place within the next twelve months.

Ballmer released the following statement regarding his retirement:

There is never a perfect time for this type of transition, but now is the right time. We have embarked on a new strategy with a new organization and we have an amazing Senior Leadership Team. My original thoughts on timing would have had my retirement happen in the middle of our company’s transformation to a devices and services company. We need a CEO who will be here longer term for this new direction.

This marks a huge change for the company, as Ballmer has been with Microsoft since 1980, serving as CEO since 2000. Do you see this major leadership change as a good thing for the future of the company? Does MS need some fresh blood in the leadership chair? Sound off with your two cents in the comments below.
