Gamers Can Now Buy Replacement Parts for Xbox Controllers from Microsoft

Making good on a 2021 promise to expand its “right to repair” options, Microsoft is now selling replacement parts for Xbox controllers through a new website. Gamers unafraid of getting under the hood of their controller can now buy replacement buttons, circuit boards, and more for Xbox Wireless and Xbox Elite Series 2 controllers.

Gamers can now buy repair and replacement parts for Xbox controllers directly from Microsoft

As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, Microsoft has launched a new website where gamers can purchase repair and replacement parts for Xbox controllers directly from the company. Providing a new option for those stuck with a broken controller, the site offers an Xbox controller repair guide for “technically inclined individuals” alongside replacements for everything from buttons to rumble motor assemblies. Repair and replacement parts are available for both the Xbox Wireless Controller and the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2.

Prior to the launch of the new, DIY-oriented repair site, people on Xbox had relatively few options for dealing with a broken Xbox pad. Although Xbox controllers that are still under warranty are typically eligible for free repairs, out-of-warranty customers could find themselves spending nearly the cost of a new controller to get repairs from Microsoft. This new repair option is liable to be especially welcome news for those who ordered a custom controller from Xbox Design Lab only to have it stop working later down the line.

While not everyone will have the desire or the technical skills required to do their own Xbox controller repairs, the new site provides a much more wallet-friendly option for those who don’t mind getting their hands dirty. Players worried that the replacement parts won’t work as intended also get some peace of mind when ordering through the site, as Microsoft is providing a 60-day window to return faulty items. Offering the chance to potentially revive an ailing accessory for far less than the cost of a new Xbox controller, this new repair option looks to be a big win for Xbox users.
