The PlayStation 4 Will Cost A Whopping $1800 In Brazil

Sony announced their price for the PlayStation 4 in Brazil today, and after seeing it, it's no wonder they hadn't announced it sooner. When the console releases this November, it will cost R$3,999, which roughly converts to $1849.85, £1,355.32, €1,146.65, or ¥180,894.39. This is more than 4 times the price in the US, 3 times the price in the UK, 2.8 times the price in Europe, and more than 4 times the price in Japan.

The cost for PS4 games isn't nearly as outrageous, costing R$179 (about $82.80).

When the PlayStation 3 released in Brazil in 2010, it cost R$1,999 ($924.69). On the same token, the Xbox One will cost $R2,199 ($1,085.93) at launch in Brazil.

Since there seems to be some precedent in place for consoles costing so much, is there a black market for gaming consoles in Brazil? There has to be some crazy reason for this crazy pricing.
