Knack Outsells Super Mario 3D World As PS4 Breaks UK Sales Records

PlayStation 4 is now the fastest-selling console in the UK, having the most successful launch week the region has ever seen.

According to MCV's retail sources, first week sales for Sony's console reached 250,000 in its opening week, surpassing Xbox One's estimated 150,000 unit debut. Interestingly enough, PlayStation Portable was the prior record holder, with week one sales pegged at 185,000 back when it launched in 2005.

As far as software is concerned, the two unsurprising leaders in the UK last week were Call of Duty: Ghosts and FIFA 14. What may be a bit shocking, though, is that Nintendo's heavy hitter for the holidays failed to break the top ten, as Super Mario 3D World placed at number fourteen, just behind the incredibly mediocre action platformer brawler, Knack.

Here's the full top ten:

  1. Call of Duty: Ghosts
  2. FIFA 14
  3. Battlefield 4
  4. Killzone Shadow Fall
  5. Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
  6. Lego Marvel Super Heroes
  7. Grand Theft Auto 5
  8. Need for Speed: Rivals
  9. Just Dance 2014
  10. Batman: Arkham Origins
