Microsoft: Lack of Kinect Could Boost Xbox One Performance

Just yesterday, Microsoft announced that it will be offering a version of Xbox One that doesn't include the Kinect starting in June, and it looks like there may be more benefits to this decision than just a lower price tag.

Speaking to Polygon, Microsoft's Yusuf Mehdi revealed that the company is exploring new ways to squeeze more power out of Xbox One. "We are in discussions with our game publishers about what we might do in this space and we will have more to talk about soon," he explained. Without the console having to run Kinect, there would presumably be more power for developers to work with.

This would be a huge win for Microsoft, as it's currently losing to Sony in the performance department when it comes to third-party games. Perhaps we'll learn more at E3.
