Destiny Makes Over $500 Million on Launch Day

Destiny, Bungie's cooperative sci-fi shooter, is now the "most successful new video game franchise launch of all time," raking in over $500 million in its first day, Activision announced this morning.

While this figure is based on copies of the game "sold in" to retailers rather than "sold through" to consumers, it is still a huge achievement for both Activision and Bungie, and speaks volumes to the hype and excitement that gamers have had for this new first-person shooter franchise.

"Destiny is officially the biggest new franchise launch in our industry's history," Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said. "It's also the highest-selling day one digital console release in history. We have more confidence than ever that Destiny will become one of the iconic franchises of this generation, and Activision's next billion dollar brand."

GameRevolution's own Daniel Bischoff has been making his way through the game and sharing his experience via live streams and review logs. Be sure to keep it locked to the site to read up on his latest impressions.
