Is Nintendo Making a Dedicated Pokémon Handheld?

Nintendo, The Pokémon Company, and Ambrella have filed a patent for what appears to be a handheld device specifically designed for Pokémon.

The device will apparently feature NFC support, just like the Wii U GamePad and upcoming New 3DS. As such, one would reasonably assume that if this piece of hardware does ever become a reality, it'll make use of Nintendo's amiibo figurines.

The patent was filed back in March, but it was only until this week that it was published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

What do you think of the idea of a device specifically dedicated to Pokémon? Would it be wise for Nintendo to introduce yet another piece of hardware into the market?
