Andrew Tate remains in custody in Romania, despite rumors suggesting he had escaped jail. The social media influencer and former star of Big Brother U.K. has been arrested, alongside his brother Tristan Tate, on suspicion of human trafficking, rape, and forming an organized crime group which would exploit women. Both Andrew and Tristan deny all allegations.
Across the weekend, what appeared to be a breaking news segment from NBC went viral on YouTube, claiming that both Andrew and Tristan Tate had broken out of prison. Their supposed escape from jail including “braving three miles of the prison’s sewage system,” which they had supposedly crawled through before escaping into the Romanian mountains.
Tate brothers prison escape video came from a satire YouTube account
Despite being very well put together, the “Andrew Tate escapes jail” video comes from a well-known, satirical YouTube account. This means that it was likely only ever intended to be enjoyed as entertainment, rather than taken as fact. The story gained some momentum on social media, leading many to believe that both Andrew and Tristan Tate had actually escaped jail, with fellow content creator Adin Ross aiding them in their prison break.
Some less believable moments from the viral video include Ross being left behind by the brothers partway through their escape in “harsh mountain conditions” because he couldn’t keep up, and the pair finally being caught by authorities after ordering pizza on their credit cards, moments before they were about to cross the border into Ukraine.
Andrew and Tristan Tate have long maintained their innocence while in Romanian custody. Their initial detention period has been extended twice, and they now look to be staying behind bars until February 27, 2023, at the very earliest. Andrew has said that “no evidence” exists in regards to the claims of his involvement in human trafficking.
