F1 23 Release Date, Braking Point Info Shown in Trailer

EA and developer Codemasters have unveiled the release date of F1 23 as well as a trailer previewing some of what to expect when it launches on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC on June 16, 2023.

What’s new in F1 23?

The latest trailer features some high-octane racing, as well as behind-the-scenes interviews with coaches in the game. Most prominently featured in the trailer, however, is the game’s Braking Point mode, a story mode that has appeared in past F1 games.

Check out the F1 23 trailer below:

Codemasters detailed the latest chapter in the Braking Point story mode in a blog post on Electronic Arts’ website on the game. “Following the careers of young upstart, Aiden Jackson, and infamous protagonist Devon Butler, the pair find themselves as together at Konnersport Racing Team, the most recent team to join the F1 grid,” reads the synopsis for the mode. “Rising star in Formula 2™ and sister to Devon, Callie Mayer, has become the first woman to ever win the F2 championship. Hungry for more success, she is keen to get her shot in Formula 1®. Will Devon or Aiden have to make way for Callie, or will team and family dynamics cause problems? There’s a lot to look forward to in a story that twists and turns based on the choices made along the way.”

Besides the Braking Point story, F1 23 will also feature two new racing locations at launch: the Las Vegas Street Circuit in Nevada, USA and the Losail International Circuit in Doha, Qatar. While Formula 1 raced the Losail International Circuit in 2021, it has never raced in the Las Vegas Street Circuit. Players, then, will be able to experience the track before actual racers do.

Past circuits that won’t be on the Formula 1 2023 calendar, but will appear in F1 23, include:

  • Circuit Paul Ricard (France)
  • Shanghai International Circuit (China)
  • Algarve International Circuit (Portugal)

Other gameplay issues have also been addressed in F1 23, including better handling, car traction, braking, accelerating, and cornering. Following community feedback, Codemasters also announced that a series of new features have been added into the game, including red flags (a flag that shows a session has been suspended, forcing racers back to the pit lane), new racing distance options, and a new color encoding system which Codemasters claims will result in a “more true-to-life visual experience.”

F1 23 is available now to pre-order, and will also have its own deluxe edition in the form of the Champions Edition. This special edition will include a variety of in-game bonuses, including:

  • Time-limited Las Vegas Content Pack
  • Max Verstappen Race Wear Pack
