Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s Parkour Calls Back to Ezio Trilogy

Assassin’s Creed Mirage has not made its references to the early entries a secret. Ubisoft has similarly advertised its throwback nature, and this also extends to Mirage’s parkour.

The Assassin’s Creed Mirage parkour will be similar to Assassin’s Creed 2

Ubisoft released a short behind-the-scenes video about the game talking about how Mirage is returning to the series’ roots. Parkour was one of the key pillars Ubisoft brought up, and the team spoke about how protagonist Basim is more nimble than recent heroes like Eivor.

“For parkour, we looked to our previous games for inspiration and chose to put the emphasis on comfort and fluidity,” said senior game designer Marco Maresca. “In Mirage, parkour is easy to learn and to master. Our approach is closer to the Ezio games where it’s all about keeping the flow and momentum going with a design centered around verticality.”

Maresca also called back to specific parkour moves like the swing which lets players quickly turn corners on a building, the ability to fluidly vault over waist-high objects, and elevators that get players to the rooftops in an instant. He also pointed out the new pole vault, which was in the PlayStation Showcase trailer.

Basim is faster than Valhalla’s hero Eivor, and Maresca said the studio tried to emphasize this through his more acrobatic animations. Artistic director Jean-Luc Sala chimed in and said the streets are more narrow and dense than in past games, but skilled players will be able to get from the ground to the rooftops “in the blink of an eye.”
