505 Games’ Parent Company to Layoff 30% of Its Staff

There has been a slew of layoffs in the video game industry lately, and unfortunately, there’s more to come. Digital Bros – the parent company of publisher 505 Games – has announced a restructuring, which will result in a series of job losses.

Will concentrate on sequels going forward

The news comes from a recent press release, which states that the company will be reviewing the “organization structure accordingly to align with the evolving competitive environment in the medium.”

Sadly, this means a reduction in around 30% of its global workforce, which will predominantly affect the studios themselves.

Adapting to the current video game climate, Digital Bros will “focus its efforts moving forward on the release of sequels and new versions of previously successful and established games, with a limited number of new larger budgets productions.”

Digital Bros owns a number of development studios, including 505 Games, the publisher behind such titles as Death Stranding, Control, Rocket League, and a bunch of other well-known names.

The statement does not confirm exactly which teams will be immediately affected by these latest developments. However, it does say that the layoffs across the whole brand will not “impact the expected Profit and Loss statement for FY 2023-2024.”

This year has been rife with job losses, with publishers, studios, and bigger companies reducing its numbers. Among some of the names are Callisto Protocol developer Striking Distance Studios, Naughty Dog, and, most recently, Amazon. All of whom have issued layoffs.

At the time of writing, 505 Games has yet to make a statement about Digital Bros’ decision to let 30% of its staff go.
