Embracer Group Has Sold Saber Interactive for Nearly $250M

Recently, it was alleged that Embracer Group was looking to part ways with Saber Interactive, leaving the studio’s future uncertain. Earlier today, the parent company announced that it was officially selling the developer.

Also ceasing operations in Russia

In a recent press release, Embracer Group has said that it’s now “entered into an agreement to divest selected assets,” with a notable reference to Saber. The development team is being sold for the purchase price of $247 million US. Of that, $44 million includes “assumed earnout liabilities.”

On top of this, Embracer is also ceasing operations in Russia through its divestment. The company CEO, Lars Wingefors, is said to be “pleased that we have found a win-win solution for Embracer and the parts of Saber that now will leave us.”

As for who has bought the studio, the press release says it’s now going into the hands of Beacon Interactive, an outfit controlled by Saber Interactive co-founder Matthew Karch. The ceasing of operations in Russia, coupled with parting ways with the Evil Dead: The Game developer, is an attempt to improve cash flow within Embracer Group.

What this means in terms of Saber projects is not certain at the moment. While the team was working on a remake of Knights of the Old Republic, there’s been concern that the project has been shelved since Embracer announced it may be selling the studio. However, it’s possible that KOTOR may still be going ahead, last we heard.

Embracer Group is a massive holding company that owns a number of large video game companies, including THQ Nordic, Gearbox, and Coffee Stain Studios.
