PlayStation Network, Store Hacked

People coming home from the PlayStation Experience may not have had the best return to their beloved Sony consoles, as online hacker group Lizard Squad has claimed responsibility for taking down the PlayStation Network and PlayStation Store overnight into Monday morning.

The group, also allegedly behind the December 5 Xbox Live hack, claimed responsibility via their Twitter account:

Though the PlayStation Store seems to be fully functional at the moment, visitors late Sunday night and early Monday morning were greeted by a message reading “Page not found! It's not you. It's the Internet's fault.”

Sony has responded to the incident only by stating that they are “currently investigating the root cause of the issue,” according to tech site CNET.com. The cyberattack is the second on Sony in the same number of months; last month, hackers stole over 100 terabytes of sensitive data from Sony Pictures Entertainment, including customer and employee data, celebrity contracts, and leaks of upcoming movies such as the remake of Annie and To Write Love on Her Arms.
