The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine at 1440p Looks Beautiful on a GTX 1080

Last week I decided to upgrade my ASUS STRIX GTX 970 to an EVGA GTX 1080. This marks the first time I have ever owned a high-end graphics card. As I suspected, it's an incredible feeling to be able to max out games. Previously, I had to make compromises at 1440p to make games run smoothly on my Dell Ultrasharp 1440p monitor. Not anymore.

I've found myself experimenting with various games to see how far I can push the graphics. What I've learned is that some games don't look all that different when jumping from High settings to Ultra. Overwatch is the first game that comes to mind in this regard. However, there are plenty of games that show dramatic improvement with each setting that is turned up, my current favorite being The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

The timing of my GTX 1080 arrival has lined up perfectly with the debut of The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine, the award-winning game's final expansion. As I wrote last week, the game is truly remarkable, and it's even better with maxed-out graphics settings.

I've taken a handful of screenshots during my journey through The WItcher 3: Blood and Wine and would like to share them with you. I will add more as I head farther into my journey. [Click on any images in the gallery below that you'd like to view in full size.]
