Tell GR: Should Games Tackle More Current Events?

In the wake of my feature today on the Far Cry 5 controversy, in which some among the gaming community have criticized reviewers for calling the game’s approach to modern politics into question, I’ve been wondering what GameRevolution’s readers think about the topic.

Personally, I want to see more games that handle current events. Sure, there’s the argument that games are a vehicle for escapism, but in my mind, that’s not all they should be. What’s the problem with a game tackling current politics, and why are so many so against developers doing this in games, to the point where “keep politics out of gaming” has somehow become a mantra? Films and TV shows do it, so why should games be excluded from this list?

However, with many in our comments section complaining about the insertion of political or societal issues in media, I’m aware that I may be an outlier here. As such, I’d like to get your thoughts on the matter. Remember to keep it civil, and your best comments will be included in this week’s edition of The People Speak.
