Tell GR: Was Delaying Battlefield 5 the Right Decision?

Battlefield 5 has been delayed into November. Previously sandwiched between Call of Duty Black Ops 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2, EA has opted for a last-minute change of plan and has pushed the shooter’s release to November 20th. This is a full month after its previous October 19th release date.

EA has stated that the reason behind the Battlefield 5 release date being moved is as a result of the game needing some extra polish. “We’re going to take the time to continue to make some final adjustments to core gameplay, and to ensure we really deliver on the potential of Tides of War,” the publisher wrote in a blog post. “We know moving the launch date means that we all have to wait a little longer. But we’re going to take our time to make sure we get it right.”

While the official word is that the game needs some extra attention before it makes its way to store shelves, EA moving it away from the October release of RDR2 is a happy coincidence. With it reportedly suffering from weak pre-order sales, moving its release until later in the year could well improve its chances of success. Or it could be perceived as a vote of no-confidence by the publisher, and cause current pre-orders to be canceled in the process.

With the game having already been embroiled in controversy as a result of the hostile reaction to its female soldiers, some sections of the internet are currently patting themselves on the back for supposedly causing this release date change, believing their outrage to have caused EA’s decision.

So what do you think? Is Battlefield 5 releasing in November a good thing for the FPS? Or does this unexpected change of plans spell trouble for the upcoming game? As always, let us know in the comments section below!
